Barren Strawberry (Potentilla sterilis)
This month’s midweek recording field trip will be on Tuesday 25th March at 10 a.m. Meet in the Appin Community Car Park opposite Appin Church and Appin Village Hall (NM 9387 4590).
From there we will head south-east along the Sustrans cycle track, continuing the survey of the track which we started in 2011 and which has now reached the incredible total of 354 plant species for the track as a whole. The sections from Appin towards Inverfolla have only been done in July and August so we can hope to add some early season plants to the lists for these sections, such as Lesser Celandine and our species of the month Hairy Bittercress, and perhaps even Barren Strawberry, a very common plant which unbelievably has not yet been recorded anywhere along the length of the cycle track.
In addition, almost all lichens, birds etc that we see will be new records for the sections of track that we’re on, and we should find some that are new for the track as a whole.
Lifts available from various places, please get in touch if want to car-share. Bring packed lunch.
Looking forward to seeing everyone.
