July 2011 – Photo of the Month Competition

July’s Winners

1st place goes to this Small Copper photo by Sallie Jack of Onich taken on Kerrera. I particularly liked the composition of this photo with stones and vegetation to accompany this excellent picture of a Small Copper butterfly.

Camera :-Olympus SP560UZ

2nd place goes to this photo of a Variable Damselfly taken by Carl Farmer of Taynuilt. This was taken at Cemetery Loch near Oban, on our recent SNHG mid-week survey walk.  Not only is this a rare damselfly for Scotland but Carl has managed to capture all the important points for identification.

Camera :-  Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ38

3rd place goes to this video taken by Keith Oversby from Kilmore of Great Spotted Woodpeckers in his garden.  It shows both the female and juvenile (the one with the red cap) birds searching for food on the ground.
