LNHG used to have a very lively online forum with lots of good discussion and many people sending in wildlife observations or photos for identification. This forum was hosted by Yahoo but unfortunately a few members could not access it owing to problems seemingly at Yahoo’s end.
We then moved the forum to Local Origins Rural Network. This has not been a great success and in recent times only one member has been posting to this forum. As a private forum it also has the disadvantage that items posted on it are not available to people searching for information about Argyll Natural History on Google.
We believe there is great potential for a lively forum about local wildlife open to LNHG members and the wider community. After much discussion we have decided that a Facebook group is the way to go.
We share the reservations that many people have about how Facebook operates. However the fact is that a great many LNHG members have already made the choice to join Facebook and will be able to access our forum without having to create a new login or password. It is also clear that Facebook groups are very successful in attracting participation, and we are confident that the LNHG Facebook group will be a popular space for exchange of information and ideas. We would not have the same confidence if we set up the new forum on any other platform.

If you are not already a Facebook member, you will be invited to join Facebook while you are trying to join the Group. Any member of the group can add photos/videos/events and files. You can even add other friends who you think might be interested in our group.
All new members and posts to the group are moderated, so that will prevent any spam appearing on the site. This will result in a short delay before posts are publicized.
We are keen to help anyone who has any difficulty in joining Facebook or accessing the Group. We don’t want anyone to feel left out! However it is not essential that everybody joins, it is your choice ! Please get in touch if you need advice.
